laps

源自拉丁文 laps us, an error ( 错误 ), slipping ( 滑倒 ), failing ( 失败 ) 。

★ laps e vi. 坠入，陷入；终止，结束 n. 差错，失误，偏离正道；（时间）流逝

｛ laps-, to glide 滑＋ -e, 字尾 → 滑入 → 坠入｝

* He soon lapsed into his previous bad habits. 他很快陷入以前的恶习中去。 (vi.)

* Then the conversation lapsed and all was still and quiet. 接着谈话声就听不到了，四周万籁俱寂。 (vi.)

* His lapse into drunkenness followed a long run of bad luck. 他的酗酒恶习带来了一连串的不幸。 (n.)

* after a lapse of several years 事隔几年之后 (n.)

★ col laps e vi. 倒塌，塌下；崩溃；突然失败 n. 倒塌；崩溃

｛ col- (= com-), together 一起＋ -laps-, to slip 滑倒＋ -e, 字尾 → 一起滑倒 → 倒塌，塌下｝

* The bridge collapsed under the weight of the train. 桥在火车的重压下塌了。 (vi.)

* His health collapsed from undernourishment. 他的身体因营养不良而垮了。 (vi.)

* The company collapsed in its first year of trading. 公司开业第一年就倒闭了。 (vi.)

* The storm caused the collapse of the roof. 暴风雨使屋顶塌了。 (n.)

* The country’s economy is on the verge of collapse . 国家的经济已到了崩溃的边缘。 (n.)

☆ collaps ible adj. 可折叠的，折叠式的

｛ -ible 形容词字尾，表「能～的，可～的」｝

* a collapsible bed 可折叠的床

★ e laps e vi. （时间）流逝

｛ e- (= ex-), out 出＋ -laps, to slip 滑＋ -e, 字尾 → to slip out 滑出去 → 流逝｝

* Time elapses so quickly. 时间飞逝。

* Four years have elapsed since he went to London. 自从他去了伦敦 , 已过了四年。

★ pro laps e vi. 脱垂，脱出

｛ pro-, forward, out 向前，向外＋ -laps-, to slip 滑＋ -e, 字尾 → to slip down 向下滑 → 脱垂，脱出｝

★ re laps e vi. & n. 旧病复发，故态复萌

｛ re-, back 回＋ -laps-, to slip 滑＋ -e, 字尾 → to slip back 滑回去 → 旧病复发，故态复萌｝

* She stopped using drugs for a month, but then relapsed . 她一个月没吸毒，但后来又吸起来了。 (vi.)

* After making some progress, he suffered a relapse . 他的病好了一点，又复发了。 (n.)
