帕里斯·希尔顿被控持可卡因或判入狱4年

Paris Hilton is claiming she believed the cocaine found in her purse was chewing gum.

According to police report released today, the 29-year-old was handed her purse by an officer when a small bag containing the drug fell out.

The officer reported that Hilton said she had not seen the bag "but now thought it was gum."

She has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, 0.8 grams of cocaine, it is claimed today.

The socialite could face four years in prison if convicted.

She is denying the allegations, claiming  the cocaine which was allegedly found,  along with the purse, was not hers.

She said she had borrowed the purse from a friend.

And somehow, according to Hilton, the contents of the purse were split between herself and the friend.

The report states she claimed ownership of a broken Albuterol pill - a prescription drug used to help people with breathing -  Zig Zag wrappers commonly used to smoke marijuana, $1,300 in cash and credit cards.

However, "She said several cosmetic items inside the purse were not hers," according to the police report.

The District Attorney filed the case today, with an October 27 arraignment, according to website TMZ.

Nevada law states that if convicted, Hilton could get anywhere from probation to four years in prison - but the standard sentence is one to four years.

She could also get fined up to $5,000.

Her boyfriend Cy Waits, who was driving the car,  was booked on charges of DUI.

Today, he is said to have lost his job as head of nightclub operations for Wynn and Encore properties after this weekend"s events.

According to the police report, Hilton was pulled over after a policeman smelled "the strong odour of marijuana coming from the vehicle."

The officer then noticed the passenger was Hilton who he then observed trying to roll up the window.

The report also stated that Hilton was "extremely embarrassed" after a crowd of people gathered around the car.

But judging by her newly-released mugshot from early Saturday morning’s drug arrest, the primped and preened star pouted as if it was any other photoshoot.

Just hours after the arrest, she also made sure to update her Twitter account to wish her followers ‘sweet dreams’.

Less than an hour after being released from Clark County Detention Centre she posted: ‘In bed watching ‘Family Guy’, Love this show!

Paris Hilton"s attorney David Chesnoff has asked people not to judge the heiress for her drug arrest until all the facts are known.

"Paris Hilton was released this morning on her own recognizance," he said today.

"This matter will be dealt with in the courts not in the media and I encourage people not to rush to judgement until all of the facts have been dealt with in a court of law.

"There will be no interviews and no more comments at this time."

In denying the cocaine allegedly found in her car in Las Vegas is hers, Hilton is using the same defence she successfully used when facing drug charges in South Africa last month.

And she has hired high-powered Vegas lawyer Chesnoff to handle the case.

Although Hilton was the only woman in the car that was stopped, she had been partying earlier at a club where her purse could have been mixed up with someone else"s, says TMZ.

The socialite was booked into the Clark County Detention Centre early on Saturday on a charge of possession of cocaine.

And she was released at around 2.30 am local time on Saturday.

During the stop officers found what appeared to be a controlled substance on Hilton and tests showed that it was cocaine.

Four years ago the reality TV star was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and sentenced to 45 days in prison.

She ended up spending 23 days in jail in June 2007.

On her release, she told Larry King that the experience caused her to re-evaluate the role partying played in her life.

She said she wanted "to help raise money for kids and for breast cancer and multiple sclerosis."

The heiress was arrested again this summer after the Brazil-Netherlands World Cup match in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, on suspicion of possession of marijuana. The case was then dropped at a midnight court hearing.

Hilton"s manager was not available for comment today. Her publicist Dawn Miller referred Mail Online to the statement by Hilton"s lawyer.
