源自拉丁文 lav are, luere, to wash 冲洗；冲刷，有变体： lau, lug, lut, luv

lav- → lau- （ v → u ）

〖﹡参考： 古典的拉丁字母并没有“ U ”字母，但有一个半元音字母“ V ”；也没有“ W ”，因为“ V ”字母的本来工作就是今日英语“ W ”的功用；亦没有“ J ”字，因为“ I ”本身可以当作半元音来用。直到 11 世纪才从“ I ”中分化出“ J ”，从“ V ”分化出“ U ”，又从“ V ”分化出“ W ”。 〗

｛ de- (=dis-), away 离去 ＋ -lug- ( ← -luv-), to wash 冲洗 ＋ -e, 字尾 → 使泛滥，使淹没；涌至｝

* Our cars were deluged by the heavy rains. 我们的车淹没在暴雨中。 (vt.)

* They deluged me with questions. 他们向我连珠发问。 (vt.)

大家再了解一个也表示 wash ( 洗 ) 的字根。 「浴疗」是近年较流行的一种养身法，它的英文单字是： balneology 。
