名师指点“校园安全”的地道英文

爱思英语编者按：近期校园安全事故频发，引起社会广泛关注。保护好每一个孩子，使发生在他们身上的意外事故减少到最低限度，已成为中小学教育和管理的重要内容。王逢鑫教授撰文告诉我们“校园安全”的地道英文表达。

句子：我们必须加强学校及周边的安全工作。

误译：We must strengthen safety work in and around school.

正译：We must strengthen security work in and around school.

解释：safety 的意思是the state of being protected from danger and harm，强调的是“安全状态”。security 的意思是the activities involved in protecting a country, building or person against attack, danger, etc，强调的是“保卫安全的活动或措施”。通过搜索，发现strengthen security work有4千多条结果，其中3千多条来自国外网页，而strengthen safety work仅有4条结果，其中2条来自国外网页。这句话的“安全工作”有采取安全措施的含义，译成strengthen security work较合适。

“安全”的第一个意思是“没有危险”或“不受威胁”。英语名词可以译为safety, security；形容词可以译为 safe, secure。例如：

1.所有学校领导不论何时都应把学生的安全放在首位。
All school authorities should always put the safety of their students in the first place.
　　
2. 政府已采取有效措施维护校园安全。
The government has adopted effective measures to maintain school safety.

3. 联合国安全理事会负有维持国际和平与安全的责任。
The United Nations Security Council is charged with the maintenance of international peace and security.

4. 有了社会安定，百姓才有安全感。
With social stability, ordinary people will have a sense of security.

5. 我们的职责是为学生、教员、职员和校园来访者提供安全的环境。
Our mission is to provide a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and campus visitors.

“安全”的第二个意思是“没有事故”或“不出事故”。英语名词可以译为safety；形容词可以译为safe。例如：

6. 这些小学生安全地穿过了马路。
These primary school children crossed the road in safety.
