源自拉丁文 idios, personal, private, distinct 自身的，独特的。

★ idio m  n. 成语，习语，惯用语

｛ idio-, distinct 独特的 ＋ -(o)m 名词字尾 → 独特的语言 → 成语，习语，惯用语｝

* Every language has its own idioms . 每种语言都有自己的习语。

☆ idiom atic  adj. 符合习惯用法的，习语的，惯用的

｛ -atic, of 形容词字尾，表「～的」｝

* -atic 做形容词字尾，又如： climatic ( 气候的 ) ， ecstatic ( 狂喜的 ) ， systematic ( 系统的 ) 。

* He speaks idiomatic English. 他说道地的英语。

★ idiot  n. 白痴，傻瓜，笨蛋

* 源自古希腊语 idiotes, 原指非公职人员，纯粹的个人；又因以前的非公职人员相对缺乏教育，因此衍生出 「 白痴 」 之意。

* She always makes a mess of things; she is an idiot ! 她总是把事情弄糟，真是个大笨蛋！
