After dinner, I took a walk by myself.

Roaming around my neighborhood, I walked past a group of old ladies dancing for fitness.  Then I saw many children screaming with joys as they ran after one another, people excercising at the newly equipped fitness facilities, nice cars running up and down, and beautiful lawns and flowers around the main gate.  It was pretty and so nice.

I had made up my mind to take a 30-minute walk every day after dinner, so I wanted to find out new routes that I had never tried.  Seeing people riding bicycle through the right-most point of my neighborhood, I followed them.Through a very narrow passing, I walked on a shabby little road, zigzagging along, amidst many shabby houses. On both sides I saw rural fields growing many types of plants.  It was a long road leading ahead, to where I did not know.  I felt that this whole area looked like what we call a "slum." I was surprised that there should be a slum so close to my nice residence garden!

Walking ahead, I saw many people in this different world.Yes, it was totally a different world.  Boys and girls, men and women, were very poorly dressed, and many men were half naked, showing dark color skin looking dirty; kids were also running, but they were not in big groups; houses were in poor conditions, leaning against each other;peddlars came and went by riding shabby bicycles selling daily necessities; there were also many people who did not seem to be doing anything, but rather standing by chatting or doing nothing.  As I walked past a turnpoint, I saw a shop-like room, where there were piles of wood slots.  A little boy, looking like in his 10s, was busy taking nails out of the lots. He was working so hard with the nails that he did not see me pass by. Soon a few people came in to sell wood slots.  The boy got on his feet and started to weigh.  Then he used a calulater to count how much he should pay.  He looked like an experienced business man. Hard life makes poeple mature at young age, I thought to myself, thinking back to my childhood when I was totally a naive, knowing nothing about making money.

I also passed small shops which were actually part of the many houses.  It was an existing community right nearby my residence.  The roads were dirty and narrow and shabby. The community was densely inhabited.  It looked busy.

It was totally a different world.

Having drunk too much water, I felt an urge for a restroom.  But, it was hard to find a right place there. Fortunately I saw one small brick room, on the wall of which I read a sign of "Gentlemen."  Without a hesitation,I entered this room.  A strong odor almost stranded me.I managed to get myself relieved, and backed out quickly.

I had thought that I should walk through this whole community and made my way out at the other side.  However,it seemed to be a very large one, so I had to turn around soon.  As I walked back into my residence, a sharp difference shot up just in the opposite way--at the end of this narrow country road, I found myself walking on the wide, concrete road, where I saw cars and nice buildings. The same group of old ladies were still dancing. children were still enjoying themselves. The fitness facilities were still busy serving people.  In front of my residence, the nice lawns were now lit up by gorgeous lights, giving colorful light.

The fountain behind the main gate started to work, shooting water high and giving nice noise.  I even saw colorful lights at the bottom of the fountain, under water. Then I came to the swimming pool which was empty now.  I saw blue floor giving nice reflection.  The residence keeping company was trying to change water, so it is empty and the floor was dry.  Some kids were walking down there.Everybody was happy and nicely dressed.

What a sharp difference!

These are two different worlds, so close to each other!

I told myself that I must cherish what I have got.  I must continue working hard and studying hard.  Life is not easy. Those people back there were born equal to me, but they did not have as much access to education and good opportunities.  I am really a lucky guy, indeed.
