有学友说,利用「构词法」记单词真是可以事半功倍,可是记字根是一件很痛苦的事情。
当然,最好的方法是从一个你熟知的简单的词中发现这个字根,这样就好记了,这就是丁老师教学一直用的方法:【熟词 → 词素(词根、词缀) → 生词 】
当然,不少字根却不易发现在你熟知的单词中。
有的字根还可以溯源,但是那显得太「学究」了,从而引出太多信息量,对一般人而言可能又是事倍功半了,那该怎么办呢?
丁 老师是很鄙视乱七八糟的「谐音联想」记忆法,那的确是误人子弟,你可能有自己的看法,但再学多一些英语,你就会明白了。不过,丁老师是从来不排斥任何方法上的探索的。学习西学的人,应该更有包容心才对,是吧?因此,我认为可以尝试用「谐音联想」去记字根。
不过「谐音联想」记忆一定要满足:音义结合。一定要巧妙,比如: chaos (混乱) → 「吵死」(chao-s)。
chron (o)源自希腊语 chronos ( 时间 ) 。 在希腊神话中 , 时间之神 Cronus ( 克罗诺斯 ) 是宙斯 ( Zeus ) 的爸爸 , 他害怕自己的子女造反 , 并吞食了自己的孩子 , 正如谚语所说 : 时间可以吞噬一切。
【帮你记字根】
chron(o)- 后面括号里的“ o ”可以放一边,那是在其后接辅音时,为了拼读加上去的,即: chron- + -o- + 辅音 。这样,我们只需记 chron 。
ch- 中的“ h ”只是表示呼气,本是可发、可不发(美国人读 wh- 音,就有两种读法,有的读出“ h ”,有的不读出“ h ”),有时也是可写,可不写的,比如这个字根的「爸爸」 Cronus ( 克罗诺斯 ) 。
chron- 听起来是不是很像「宽容」。任何天大的过失,放到时间的长河里,都是可以宽容的。你还记得你上幼儿园时,被班上的小朋友用「降龙十八掌」打翻在地,你哭得呼天抢地吗?

◎大师点拨ana- ( 元音前常作 an- ) 是一个比较生僻的字首,这里补充讲解一下,它是来源于希腊语 ana ,意为「 up 向上」,它主要有下面的意思:
1 、 up 向上,如: ana batic adj. ( 风、气流等 ) 上升的
2 、 back 向后,如: ana mnesis n. 【心理学】 回忆;回想【医学】 既往病历{ mne- to recall 回想 + -sis 抽象名词字尾}
3 、 again 又,再,如: ana biosis n. [ 医 ] 回生,复苏{ bio-, life 生命 + - sis 抽象名词字尾}
4 、 throughout 遍及,全部,如: ana lysis n. 分析,分解{ -ly-, to loosen 松开,放松 + -sis 抽象名词字尾}
5 、 according to, similar to 依照,相似于,如: ana logy n. 类 似, 类推{ -log-, proportion 比例 + -y 名词字尾}
cid, cis源自拉丁语 caedere, “ to cut 切割,杀”。
【帮你记字根】
这个字根就从熟词 decide ( v. 决定 ) , decision ( n. 决定 ) 中分解出来记忆。
“ cis ” 又是怎么来的呢?
“ cid ” 源自拉丁 caedere 的词干 caed ,“ cis ” 源自其动名词 csesus 的词干 caes ,所以,“ cid ” 要理解为 to cut, to kill ,而“ cis ”要理解为 cutting, killing 。
caed, caes 中间的 “ ae ” 又是怎样变成 “ i ” 的呢?( ← 这适于专业人士了解 )
The vowel change of -ae- to -i- in Latin is due to a Latin phonetic rule involving unaccented syllables in compounds. 在拉丁语中,元音 -ae- 变成 -i- ,这 是在复合词中非重读音节的语音规则。
以上是引自典籍,不过,说了还是白说,还是丁老师讲得简单一些:
ae = æ 与 i 发音方式一样,只是开口度不一样而已,在非重读节,当然要读小声一点啰,所以, æ 读作 i 。

{ insect 昆虫 + -i- 连字符 + -cid-, to kill 杀 + -e 字尾 → 殺蟲劑 }
* The airplane dusted the crops with an insecticide . 飞机给庄稼撒农药。

字根 cit 可以从熟词 excite (使兴奋,使激动;激励,激发,引起;刺激) 来记:
* ex- 是很简单的前缀,如出大型超市都会看到头顶或墙上的“ exit ( 出口 ) ”( ex-, out 出 + -it, go → go out 走出); * -cit-, to call 叫; -e 字尾,构成音节,无实义。 → to call out 叫出来,当然是兴奋了啰!(有点儿暧昧,不过能理解记忆字根就好!)
★ cite vt. 引用;引证

* The lawyer cited a previous case to support his argument. 律师引用了以前的案例来支持他的论点。
