In a week that has seen a cold snap 寒流 come to the UK one Premier League manager is feeling the chilly disapproval 冷落 of his club’s owners.

Mark Hughes was sacked as manager of Manchester City following a string of draws 一连串的平局 in the team’s last 11 games.

City’s Abu Dhabi-based 以阿布扎比为基地的, mega-rich owner Sheik Mansour issued a statement stating that the team’s recent results were "not in line with the targets that were agreed and set" at the beginning of the season.

"Sheikh Mansour and the board felt that there was no evidence that the situation would fundamentally change," the statement continued.

Managing can be a lonely job

And with that Mark Hughes was gone, despite guiding his team to a thrilling 令人激动的 4-3 victory against Sunderland on Saturday.

Hughes’ sacking underlines the incredible pressures to succeed that managers in the Premier League face.

Mark Hughes’ reign 掌权期 at Eastlands(曼城队主场)东地体育场 lasted only 18 months, during which he spent nearly £200m (2,200m yuan) on bringing new players to the team, including a record-breaking British transfer fee 创纪录的英国转会费 of £32.4m (350m yuan) on the Brazilian player Robinho.

But the spending spree 疯狂的消费 failed to equate to results on the pitch. As many commentators have said – one thing that you cannot buy is time, and it takes time to mould 塑造 a team.

City’s owners, however, seem to have become impatient at a perceived 被认为的 lack of success, and have decided to demand more from their team of misfiring millionaires 经常失误的百万富翁(球员),with Hughes as the first casualty 被开刀的人.

Hughes described himself as "extremely disappointed" not to have been given the opportunity to see through his plans at the club.

"I am very proud of the fact that I steered 领导 the club through the most significant period of change in its history," he added.

Other football managers have been quick to support Hughes, describing their disbelief that he should be replaced so soon into the rebuilding of Manchester City.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp spoke of the trend 潮流 for ultra-rich foreign owners to buy English clubs and demand immediate success.

"It"s different now. You"ve got multi-millionaire owners who all want to be number one, and they"re not going to understand that they can"t all win," he said.

This means we can expect managers to be replaced more frequently in future, according to Redknapp.

"The more [rich owners] that come in, the more you are going to see managers come and go. The merry-go-round (旋转木马式的)新旧轮换 will be even worse because they"re all disappointed they"re not top of the league,” said Redknapp.

Hughes will be replaced by the Italian coach Roberto Mancini.
