源自希腊文 gamos, marriage 结婚；婚姻。

大家或许对“ hoi polloi ” 这个来自希腊语的英文单字比较陌生吧，它意为：「民众；乌合之众」，相当于 the masses ，它原本的意思就是：「大多数人，大众」。

hoi 表「定冠词 the 」并放在复数前； polloi 是 polus 的复数，表「 much, many 许多」， poly- 便是源自 polus 。

源自拉丁文 gener are, (to bear or to give birth to, to produce 出生，生产 ) 和希腊文 gen esis (origin 起源 , source 来源 , beginning 开始 , nativity 出生 , generation 产生 , production 生产 , creation 创造 )

-etic 是比较难的形容词字尾，与之对应的名词字尾是 -esis 。 -etic 通常是将字尾为 -esis 的名词变为形容词，如上面的： genesis, genetic 。

-etic 是源于拉丁字尾 -eticus ，或源自希腊语字尾 -etikos 。

以 -etic 为字尾的形容词很多，如： theoretic, energetic, sympathetic, apologetic, emetic, uretic, zoetic, pyretic, ascetic, splenetic, phrenetic
